Home Made Hummus Recipe

Saturday, February 21st, 2015

Hummus is one of my very favorite snacks!  Its quick and easy to make, full of protein, fiber, vitamin b-6 and magnesium!  You can eat it with crackers, tortillas or veggies.  Spread it on toast with a little sliced cucumber, yum!

In order to make this recipe you'll need a food processor or blender.

This is a basic hummus recipe, you can jazz it up anyway you like.  Add some roasted red peppers, chipotle peppers, herbs or spices that you enjoy.

  • 1 19oz can organic chickpeas
  • 3 TBS Tahini (sesame seed paste)
  • 1 large lemon juiced
  • 4 TBS olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • 2 TBS water (optional)
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

The key to making a good hummus is the order in which the ingredients go into the food processor or blender.  Start by adding the tahini and lemon juice. Pulse for about a minute or until the mixture becomes a paste and is light in color.  Then add the chickpeas and process until the chickpeas are broken down a bit.  Put in garlic then add olive oil a little bit at a time while you are pulsing or blending.  Process until you reach your desired consistency. Lastly you are going to add the salt and cumin. You can add water if you'd like to thin the hummus out a bit. Blend or pulse for a few more seconds.  Garnish with fresh chopped parsley.

Hope you Enjoy!!!
